Coaching Workshop

Ran a coaching workshop today at Engineers Without Borders Canada, where I could share some learning from my own experience as a coach and from the learning I’m doing through the Coaches Training Institute. The hot topic of the day was where the line is drawn between coaching and managing. I associate “curiosity, exploration, discovery, fulfillment” with coaching. I associate “performance, results, subject matter expertise, deliverables” with managing. And yet the areas of motivation, personal growth, support and encouragement can inform both relationships. Looking forward to more discussion on this with some of the coaching mentors I have who work in organizational coaching.
